Second Annual Small Business Expo

On Tuesday, September 26, 2017 the Big Sandy Business Services Team and the Mountain Arts Center hosted the second annual Big Sandy Small Business Expo. Throughout the event the lobby was packed with vendor booths from a multitude of industries and visitors gained knowledge from business educational topics.

The event included panels and speaking sessions on topics such as business collaboration, website design, and resources available to small businesses. In one session featured One East Kentucky CEO Chuck Sexton. Sexton presented work from his group to attract large scale industry to the region, and the unique, important role that small businesses have in that mission.

Sexton stated that when a company comes to visit our area because they are considering making a huge, multi-million dollar investment, they will most likely come to the region unofficially – probably wearing a baseball hat and old jeans and walk around asking questions and everyone needs to be ready and realize the importance when speaking to visitors.

Sexton said that it is vital for businesses to be visible online and easy to find. All images and social media posts need to present the best image of our region - from afar; it’s important to maintain positive online images and social media posts to help sell the region. In addition, stay current on educational and economic opportunities.

One East Kentucky’s long-term strategy and methods for recruiting industry involves everyone being proactive and getting involved. Everyone can use his or her connections to generate leads and those leads could one day result in a new factory or plant in Eastern Kentucky.
