Chambers Welcome Judi’s Place for Kids to Prestonsburg

On May 16, 2017 the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce, along with the Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome Judi’s Place for Kids Children's Advocacy Center in Prestonsburg. The ceremony and open house allowed community members to gain a better understanding of the services Judi’s Place provides area children since 1999.

Named for Kentucky’s Former First Lady Judi Patton, Judi’s Place is committed to putting the needs of the child first when there is an allegation of child abuse. They serve around 300 children per year in Pike, Floyd, Johnson, Martin, and Magoffin Counties.  Working together with law enforcement, child protective services, prosecutors, and mental health professionals, they provide transportation, mental health services, on-sight medical services, forensic interviews, treatment for trauma, and access to the Healing Program of Mountain Comprehensive Care.

Laura Kretzer, executive director, said the expansion had already allowed more individuals to work with the center promoting a healthier and save environment for the kids.  Kretzer also discussed the involvement of Court Appointed Special Advocates of Eastern Kentucky (CASA). CASA is a program of Judi’s Place that allows volunteers to be trained in protecting the children who have suffered abuse or neglect. The volunteers then become advocates in the courts, schools, and communities.

Judi’s Place for Kids and CASA are strong forces in protecting the children of Eastern Kentucky and their efforts have made a huge impact in our communities. The new center is located at 253 University Drive in Prestonsburg. For additional information, call (606) 886-8520.
