Ronald McDonald House Charities Discussed at Chamber Luncheon

The Floyd County Chamber of Commerce held a networking luncheon meeting on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Dewey’s at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park.  The guest speaker was Ann Evans, executive director of the nonprofit Ronald McDonald House Charities for the Bluegrass. Evans described how the RMHC vision is to be the “home away from home” for families during a healthcare crisis and that the facility had provided many services to local families in eastern Kentucky.

Evans stated that 15 Floyd County families had stayed 270 days, free of charge, at the Ronald McDonald House in Lexington in 2016 and the house accommodated 18 Pike County families who stayed 336 days, one Johnson County family, who stayed two days, seven families from Knott County, who stayed 101 days, and 13 families from Perry County, who stayed 287 days. She indicated that the majority of the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House are from Eastern Kentucky.

Evans showed a video that highlighted some families that had stayed at the Ronald McDonald House in Lexington. She said the house was a house of hope. Evans explained that it costs about $75 per night to house a family and the facility does not receive any local, state or federal funding. She noted that the house tries to help everyone possible, but there is almost always a waiting list.
