The Air Evac Lifeteam, along with the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce and the City of Prestonsburg, hosted the official groundbreaking for the new helipad base in Prestonsburg on July 13, 2017.  Once finished, a full time aircraft will be located at the site which will allow Air Evac better access to patients. The project has been in the works since March of last year and should be completed in three to six months.

The site is located on Sugarcamp Road near StoneCrest and will house living quarters, fuel storage, a landing pad and a hanger. Prestonsburg Mayor Les Stapleton said that this is a huge opportunity for the residents in Prestonsburg and even those in Floyd County and the surrounding area. The new base will allow the medical helicopter to run to area hospitals, even when the valleys below are full of fog.

Air Evac Lifeteam is the leading provider of helicopter emergency medical services to communities in need of rapid medical transport to advanced health care. Flight crews, consisting of a pilot, flight nurse and flight paramedic, are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to the scene of an emergency, or provide transportation between medical facilities.
