Welcome to the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce
Chamber Discusses Area Tourism with New Director
The Floyd County Chamber of Commerce held a networking luncheon meeting on March 10, 2016 at Peking Chinese Restaurant in Prestonsburg. The topic for the luncheon was promoting area tourism. The guest speaker was Mitchell Pearson, new executive director of Prestonsburg Tourism Commission. Pearson described how excited he was to be in Prestonsburg and how he is committed to working with area businesses and community members to promote tourism and showcase area attractions.
Pearson stressed that for a small community, Prestonsburg and the county has a lot of interesting destinations. He noted that there’s shopping, outdoor trails, great golf courses, restaurant and cafés with local flare, the Mountain Arts Center and a first-rate state park. He stated, “We’re a perfect weekend destination.”
Pearson explained how Prestonsburg and Paintsville have been partnering on several events recently to promote the area as a regional tourism destination. He stated that about 20 motor-coach tours will be traveling in our area this season which represents a perfect opportunity to showcase area attractions and our friendly cultural.
Pearson outlined the tourism commission’s mission as “dedicated to promoting & marketing the city and the region.” He added that a rebranding marketing campaign was underway for Prestonsburg Tourism Commission. This campaign will include a newly designed website and logo. He wasn’t able to share details of the new logo with the group, but he was excited about the new design and felt it was characteristic of the area.
Pearson emphasized that the area has a lot to offer and it’s very important for local residents to be well-informed of the many activities and ongoing events. The community needs to help spread the word and be proud of the area and all the tourism activities offered.
Following the presentation by Pearson, Chamber business representatives were given the opportunity to highlight activities and events in Floyd County and at their businesses.
